ENGLISH LANGUAGE WORKSHOP

The English Language Workshop for form 4 was held at the hall from 7.30 to 2pm. We received backdated issues of The Star and Galaxie from Star Publication for the students to carry out the activities.

The students were divided into 26 groups with 8-10 members in each group. In every group, the members were from the 9 classes. So they really had to cooperate with students from other classes.

The first activity was naming the group. Some of them chose such hilarious names such as PINK ELEPHANT!!The rationale: a pink elephant would be something very unique, like each and every one member in our group.

Another group chose the name MOSQUITO and they really smacked the insect and glued it on the paper!! When I asked the group leader to explain the rationale: because a mosquito is small but sucks blood...

Other names include: Crazy For Cash, Volkswagen, Chelsea, Broadband, Dazzle,Proximal and Tech Juniors.

One of the activities was writing obituary but NO human!!So there were obituaries for a cell phone,("died" because it fell from the 2nd floor!!) a notebook,(cause of death: tsunami!!) car(which belongs to my fourth wife!!), among others. My students were creative and talented. Its just that they lacked confidence and they were busy thinking of mischievous things.

When I gave them a riddle: I AM AN INSECT. THE FIRST HALF OF MY NAME IS THE NAME OF ANOTHER INSECT. WHAT IS MY NAME?

My colleagues and I laughed when one the students answered:

BUTTERFLY. I commented: IS BUTTER AN INSECT??

But the best answer that tickled us so much was:DRAGONFLY.

And I said jokingly: HELLO!!A DRAGON IS NOT AN INSECT, PEOPLE!
